FCPS Study Duration

Training Program:

A highly regarded postgraduate medical training program offered in Pakistan and numerous other nations connected to the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) is the FCPS (Fellowship of the College of Physicians and Surgeons) program. The FCPS program is regarded as one of the most demanding and extensive training programs in the area, and it is designed to produce specialists in a variety of medical and surgical specialties. Depending on the selected specialization and the trainee's rate of advancement, the average FCPS study lasts four to five years. Generally speaking, the study period is split into two sections: FCPS Part I and FCPS Part II. The entry-level test, FCPS Part I, focuses on the fundamental sciences that are pertinent to the candidate's field of choice. Candidates can enroll in organized residential training programs approved by the CPSP after passing Part I. In addition to regular reviews and performance assessments, this training entails practical clinical practice overseen by seasoned consultants.

Specialization:

The majority of specializations, including pediatrics, gynecology, surgery, medicine, and others, typically require four years of training. Some super-specialty fields, however, can last five years or longer. In addition to learning advanced diagnostic and therapeutic techniques and rotating through several departments, trainees also participate in workshops, lectures, and case discussions as part of the ongoing medical education process throughout this period. To get ready for independent practice, they start to assume greater responsibility for patient care and decision-making in their final years. The exit exam, FCPS Part II, assesses the candidate's clinical reasoning, practical abilities, and in-depth knowledge. To make sure the trainee is qualified to practice as a specialist, this exam consists of both written and clinical exams, including viva voce and long/short case evaluations. The FCPS study length includes required workshops in research technique, ethics, and communication skills in addition to clinical
instruction.

Teach Aspiring:

The goal of these courses is to teach aspiring consultants in leadership and professional conduct in addition to technical areas. In order to provide their training a more scholarly and scientific component, candidates must also finish a dissertation or research project that has been accepted by the CPSP. Before trying Part II, this research component must be finished, which may take a few more months.
